What's worse...?

A. Really bad cologne
B. Really bad body odor
C. A and B combined

I experienced C in a big bad wolf kind of way a few minutes ago. Rider or Sasquatch?

Did you know?

...that "Diff'rent Strokes" is on BET in the morning? It's on right now. I loved that show as a kid. My kids are watching it right now. G-man and Little brother seem to be enjoying it.

...that John Hughes wrote the script for "National Lampoon's Vacation?"

...that "Sixteen Candles" was mostly filmed in Evanston, IL?

...that one or both of my kids have some sort of summer activity every week until July 21?

...that I'm going to get my haircut at 10:00 a.m. today?

...that I need to leave and go to Home Depot to buy new filters for the HVAC and I'm hoping that it's just the filters that need to be replaced?

...that I hope you are having a great summer?

the future...

We have five televisions in our home (yes, more than a family of four needs). All of the tvs have cable and two of them have DVRs.

I just saw a commercial for one DVR that works with six other tvs. Of course this product is now on the market, after we've spent many hundreds of dollars on new Cable/DVR boxes in the last six months.

What else is going to be obsolete in a few years or less?

I'm just waiting for DVDs to truly be a thing of the past...what do you think...by 2015 will DVDs be as lame as VHS tapes? Movies will be downloadable off the internet...I know they are already, but how long until that becomes part of mainstream America?

Are there cars out there already that have the same internet capabilities as my Blackberry? If not, that's just around the corner.

By the time my kids have cell phones (or whatever they'll be calling them in five years), they'll all have GPS, so my kids won't be able to lie about where they are going. Hello, Big Brother!

My idea of a cool invention back in the early 90s was the ability to set your VCR through your telephone. With today's DVRs, that invention idea sounds kind of lame.

And I recently saw something that you attach to your digital camera that automatically uploads your photos to your favorite website. What's next, something that automatically uploads your videos to YouTube?

When is the bluetooth going to be small enough to stick in your ear and not stick out like a sore thumb?

what are your predictions for inventions of the future?

Thoughts of a 6-year-old

G-man was watching a cartoon where the characters go to Las Vegas.

He asked me, "Lost Vegas? Why do they call it that? Are the people in Lost Vegas, lost?"

Yes my wise son, they are.

I'm sorry Starbucks...

You may or may have not heard that business is down for Starbucks. It's my fault. I have been a Starbucks fan since I exited college and started working in downtown Chicago. At that time, Starbucks were not on every street corner, but almost every third street corner. I would get my daily morning Almond Lattes and many a day was filled with a post-lunch Frappuccino in the summertime.

Even after I left the "office-working-world" and entered the Stay-At-Home mom world, I continued my Starbucks addiction. When my oldest was a baby and wouldn't go down for his afternoon nap, I'd purposefully strap him in his baby carrier and drive to the nearest drive-thru Starbucks, which was about a 20 minute drive. I was happy that my son would get at least a 40 minute nap and I would get my Starbucks.

Over the years I've favored the previously mentioned Almond Lattes and Frappuccinos, but I've also enjoyed countless Green Tea Lattes/Frappuccinos, Vanilla Lattes, regular coffees and my biggest winter vice: Peppermint Mochas.

The Saturday morning tradition around my household was to roll out of bed, stick on a baseball cap and go down to the local Starbucks to get coffee for myself and Chad and two old-fashioned donuts for the boys.

When we moved here from Virginia, we were looking at two different houses to buy. The other house was a lot bigger and a cost a lot less, but in the middle of nowhere. The nearest Starbucks was at least a 20-minute drive. I joke that we chose our current house over that one because there is a Starbucks less than a mile away.

I prefer shopping at Target for my groceries over the Dominick's that is closer, because there is a Starbucks in the Target.

But that all changed last December.

That's when we got a Keurig Coffee Maker (Geo had raved about his making the perfect cup of coffee). We got ours at Costco, so it wasn't as much money as you'd normally pay. But it's been worth it. I love my Keurig.

Now every morning I have two cups of perfectly brewed coffee and that's enough caffeine for me. By the time I leave the house, I have no desire for Starbucks. I can think of six Starbucks that are within a fifteen minute drive (there are probably at least 1-3 more), but they haven't had my business in a very long time.

Starbucks, I hope you can get out of this rut. In addition to losing my business, everyone is paying so much for gas these days that they don't have any money left over for your fancy bar drinks. Good luck.

Tuesday morning

Today is my last morning "off" until the start of school this fall (not including my kids-free vacation next week). Today is the last morning both kids will be in school.

I spent it shopping for new summer clothes, since I've dropped 18 pounds and last summer's clothes are too big. :)

And now I'm having lunch at Panera.

Like Rider's visits to Panera, I've enjoyed people watching.

There's a 20-30ish-year-old guy who was picking his nails for about ten minutes and is now taking a nap on one of the leather chairs. No sign of him purchasing any food/drink.

I'll try to take his picture.

Sex and the City

Like many other woman, I had a Girls' Night Out this weekend to see Sex and the City, followed by dinner and a cosmo.

I went with some of my friends and somehow the fact that I blog came up. I didn't tell them where to find my blog, but I also told them that if they know my name, it wouldn't take that long to find it.

So ladies, if you find this blog, please drop me a comment to let me know you found it! I'll keep your eyes fuzzed out, unless you want me to change it.

Rider, this is what a "coven of horny, aging harpies" looks like.

And the topic of our top five kept coming up and I don't know if I've ever listed it. It changes every so often, but this is who I came up:

Josh Holloway
Ashton Kutcher*
Christian Bale
Matt Damon
Brad Pitt

*Most of us got together last night to watch "What happens in Vegas**" in the comfort of someone's basement movie theater to drool over Ashton.

**Someone's hubby miraculously found the DVD under the porch.
