Sixteen Candles

I'm watching Sixteen Candles on DVD and it's been a while since I've seen it unedited and w/o commercials.

John Hughes is a genius...aside from his writing and directing skills, he had an amazing ear for music.

Anyone think he'll ever come out of hiding/"retirement"?

Has anyone ever noticed how Long Duk Dong uses American eating utensils? Chad and I noticed it for the first time ever tonight. Awesome.

ETA: I love how Samantha is similar to me in that her family calls her "Sam," but she really wants to be called "Samantha." My parents and some family members call me "Val," but I prefer "Valerie."

A meme about me...

I've been tagged by Marni. I haven't been blogging regularly, mostly for lack of things to write about...so I welcome any meme tags right now.

The Rules

1. Post the rules before you give your answers.

2. List one fact about yourself beginning with each letter of your middle name. If you don't have a middle name, use your maiden name or your mother's maiden name.

3. At the end of your blog post, tag one person (or blogger of another species) for each letter of your middle name. Be sure to leave them a comment telling them they've been tagged.

My middle name is Faith.

Fierce - I like to imagine that I'm fierce...as in Christian Siriano's definition: "it's an easy word to use to describe being fabulous, flawless and stylish. It's better than 'great,' it gives an extra something."

Athletic - I like to imagine that I'm athletic. As mentioned recently, I've started exercising regularly and watching my diet. I've never considered myself athletic, I never was in any team sports, didn't really enjoy gym class, but I'm planning (planning being the operative word) to run a 5K on July 4th...

Interested - I'm interested in people...that's why I read blogs. I would rather be asking questions instead of answering them.

Tall - Not really, but for someone of Filipino descent, I am. Depending on my mood, I'm either 5'5" or 5'6".

Happy - I am a very happy person. If I listed all the things in my life that made me happy, I'd probably make you either roll your eyes or yawn.

5 letters...5 people to tag (I tagged people that I thought would actually respond):

Have you heard of...

Hulu.com?

Will it ever be as big as youtube?

It's legal, has commercials, but it has a better picture quality.

Discuss.

Proof that my mind is in the wrong place...

G-man: what does tooter mean?

Me: Fart.

G-man: What? I said TOOTER.

Me: That means fart.

G-man: Like at school...a TOOTER.

Me: Oh, a tutor...a tutor is like a teacher.

Should I be worried?

G-man has two pet goldfish...the other day he asked, "When my goldfish die, can we eat them?"

How I Met Your Mother question...

spoiler alert:

Did anyone else wonder if the brunette that Ted brushed up against at the bar ends up being his wife? The fact that the credits at the end even gave her credit as the attractive brunette (Hope Riley) makes me raise an eyebrow...if I could raise one eyebrow...

Lost 3-13-08

SPOILER ALERT:

Last night's ep was fantastic...although I didn't appreciate being tricked at the end with what was going on with Jin...I should have suspected his story was a flashback since he had a pretty "old" looking cellphone.

I didn't remember last night that the date of the crash was Sep. 22, 2004, which is the date that was listed on Jin's tombstone as the date of his death...which makes me wonder...is he really still alive and the Oceanic Six are merely pretending that all non-Oceanic Sixers really did die on 9/22/04? Were Sun and Hurley visiting his grave because they know they are being watched?

Is Jin still really back on the island with the other non-Oceanic Sixers?

I think I'm just holding out hope that he isn't really dead.

**********

I had heard rumors that Michael would be Ben's spy on the freighter...but I still got chills when his face came into focus.

Sun should've slapped Juliet a lot harder than she did.

Random Top Chef Thoughts

Love that it's in Chicago. All the shots they have of the city make it look beautiful.

As a Tony Bourdain fan, I think it's funny that he was a guest judge with Rocko Dispirito (sp?), someone he's openly made fun of (although he sat as far away from him as possible).

The guy from New York that drops the F-Bomb every ten seconds grates me.

I could really go for some Eggs Benedict...who doesn't love a nicely poached egg?

There was a head-to-head between Ryan and Valerie...which made me chuckle cuz my high school boyfriend was named Ryan.

Those sweat-headbands look super dorky.

It's not super clear to me who the winner will be, so I won't make a prediction...yet.

Unhitched

I'm watching this for the first time and wondering if it's even close to Seinfeld, like the critics claim...stay tuned...

ETA: Eh...it was a little funny...I'll give it a few more chances before I completely rule it out.

The casting director likes to fill the roles of extras with extras that are filled with silicone.

my endorsement...

Today is a glorious day...or at least it is right now. Both boys are in school and I don't have any obligations for at least another hour. I haven't been able to read blogs or write on my blog recently, so that's how I want to spend this next free hour.

Welcome back to fd (Reflections from the lake)...it's good to see you in the blogosphere again. Reading the comment's of fd's most recent post prompted me to write about Facebook...it seems that he's had a bit of a reunion with someone through his blog and I've recently reconnected with friends from the past via Facebook...

Sometimes when I'm on Facebook, I'll randomly type in names of people from my past and a few times I've gotten hits and reconnected with people. It's cool. Less than a week ago, I randomly thought of a girl from my childhood that I saw very intermittently...she was about my age and she had a nickname that I couldn't remember and I never really knew her birth name and I thought of her for a few seconds and wondered whatever happened to her. So I couldn't search for her, since I didn't know her nickname or real name.

Just the other day, someone that I go to MOPS with (it's a moms' group) added me as a facebook friend. She had found me through a mutual facebook friend.

Then last night, I got a friend request from the girl whose nickname I couldn't remember! Turns out she's friends with my MOPS friends and saw me on her profile...it's a cliche, but it's a small world.

For those that aren't on Facebook, you should be...go check it out...you'll be amazed what you find. If you don't, I'll give you your money back. I promise.

Question for those in/from the Chicago area...

(click on image for more info)

Did anyone else call this place The Syphilis? or was it just me and my friends?

I'm so glad I'm not in high school anymore...

I'm at the local community pool and watching G-man take a swimming class.

The staff is mostly high schoolers and there is a girl who obviously likes a boy co-worker and he seems a bit clueless.

What is it about boys that make them so clueless? Why do they need a big sign that reads, "I like you."?

They'd make a cute couple too. Good luck pool girl.

New Amsterdam

I just watched the premiere of New Amsterdam and I liked it...I can only hope the show lasts thru its first season.

As a fan of Antique Roadshow, I liked the way that he helped his friend make an "easy" 60K.

Now I have to go check imdb to see what else the main actor has been in...

Overheard at Pilates class...

"When I had liposuction they didn't put me to sleep."

Uh, thanx for sharing.

ETA: Did you get a discount for that?

Mobile blog #2

Cool! It worked.

Have I said how much I love my crackberry? It's so awesome.

Tangent question: does anyone out there have an iPhone? If so, how does texting/emailing work on it?

So about a month ago I started exercising (treadmill) and watching my diet and I'm proud to say that I've lost 13.5 pounds! But last night my stomach was upset and I didn't eat dinner so it's probably really a 12 pound loss, but still...that's awesome in my book.
